Sun King announces the publication of its inaugural Allocation and Impact Report, which demonstrates how the company has utilised proceeds from its sustainable financing instruments to expand energy access, support Africa’s green transition, and enhance the health and livelihoods of its customers and staff.

In May 2023, Sun King launched its Sustainable Financing Framework to align its fundraising with global best practices in transparency, responsibility, and sustainability. Since then, the company has released its first Allocation and Impact Report, highlighting how funds raised under the framework have been used to support underserved households with clean energy, digital access, and livelihood-enhancing solutions.

The report details how proceeds from Sun King’s first two sustainable debt issuances – the 2023 Kenya Securitisation and the 2024 Enterprises Bond – were fully allocated to eligible projects. These include DC solar home systems, solar inverter systems, energy-efficient appliances, and smartphones, all designed for low-income, off-grid communities.

Marking the publication of the allocation and impact report, Krishna Swaroop, Chief Financial Officer at Sun King, noted, “This report demonstrates how capital raised through sustainable finance has been responsibly deployed to empower families, grow livelihoods, and deliver measurable environmental benefits.”

The Allocation and Impact Report also reaffirms Sun King’s alignment with internationally recognised Social and Green Bond and Loan Principles.

The report highlights how Sun King has provided first-time energy access to over 23 million households – many in off-grid and low-income communities – through its pay-as-you-go solar model. By removing the barrier of high upfront costs, Sun King is accelerating progress towards universal energy access, while also contributing to poverty reduction, better health outcomes, and climate action.

As the largest off-grid solar company in the world, Sun King continues to push the boundaries of inclusive innovation, with operations in 14 countries and a distribution network across 40 more.
